Advance notification to the Animal Quarantine Service at your planned port of entry is also required well ahead of arrival, and the exact requirements shift depending on whether you're coming from a country Japan designates as rabies-controlled or from one that isn't — a distinction worth confirming directly with the Animal Quarantine Service or a specialized pet relocation service rather than assuming your situation matches a friend's experience from a different country.
The practical implication for your Osaka move is simple but easy to underestimate: if you want your pet with you from day one, the quarantine clock needs to start roughly six to eight months before your intended move date, not six to eight weeks.
